UX Design, HTML Prototype

Partner Scorecard

Web tool used to evaluate potential business partners' effects on an automotive brand.

Background

A leading automotive manufacturer was looking for a proof-of-concept tool that would enable their business relationship managers to identify strategic partnerships while minimizing the risk to their brand.

In order to sell the concept to key stakeholders, a clickable wireframe prototype was required.

My Process

Definition

Establish business & user goals, and technical constraints through meetings with stakeholders and brand managers.

Research

Investigate social media monitoring and technical integration from multiple back-end systems & tools.

Documentation

Summarize research findings into an architecture model to share with stakeholders.

Ideation

Create a task flow model to map the user’s end-to-end process.

Design

Create low-fidelity paper prototypes for rapid feedback and testing.

Production

Develop an interactive prototype and digital wireframes.

Optimisation

Analyze, learn, & improve the process.

Establish Goals & Constraints

Who is it for? Why do they need it? What should it do?

I needed to understand how a brand evaluates partners and what unique concerns the client had. To do that, I reached out to the brand managers as well as the partner managers to get valuable input from both product owners and users.

From there, I established project goals and set a timeline for myself that would result in a functional wireframe prototype.

Research & Documentation

Evaluate Data Systems

Where is the information coming from? Can we incorporate external tools? What are the development costs?

I looked through lots of excel spreadsheets to analyze what data we could pull from different databases and I started thinking about how that data could be displayed.

I then researched social media monitoring and integrating preset google keyword searches in multiple languages and countries into the product.

After evaluating all of these factors, I assembled the research into a simple diagram to illustrate to product owners how each technical system would tie into the product structure.

Ideation

Create User Flows

After completing my research, and with the information from the business relationship manager, I drafted a series of tasks that the users would look to perform to evaluate a partner.

Design

Prototype Rapidly & Test

Since time constraints for the project were tight, I focused primarily on building quick paper protoypes that I could rapidly test and modify. Once we had an approach that met our user and business needs, I started on the html prototype.

HTML Prototype

For the final deliverable, I chose a mix between wireframes and polished visuals. I wanted to have enough of a brand feel that it didn’t feel out of place as the client’s product, but I wanted to focus mostly on functionality and a few key animations.

Optimisation

Analyze the Results

Due to the time spent on research & ideation, I was able to provide a streamlined experience that included several new features not before considered by the client.

The client was left with an understanding of what would be technically feasible, as well as a fully functioning prototype that surpassed their design expectations and could be shown to stakeholders.

The client also realized the value of simple prototyping processes such as paper prototyping and how that can save time and money (and it’s fun for me).

Learn & Improve

This project provided me with an opportunity to work with a new wireframing and prototyping software (UXPin) and to combine those two steps into one; which would’ve been challenging with some other tools.

Social media monitoring was a new topic for me, and while I wasn’t able to test a specific tool, I did get a sense of just how useful this discipline would be for the right company.
